UX Writer / Microcopy Specialist

Main Mission
Under the supervision of the Head of Product and User Experience, the UX Writer / Microcopy Specialist will be responsible for designing, writing, and optimizing text content embedded within digital interfaces to enhance the user experience of the Government of Togo's digital platforms and services.
He/she will help make digital journeys clearer, more intuitive, accessible, and understandable through user-centered writing, ensuring alignment between content, design, user behavior, and product goals.
In the execution of their duties, the UX Writer / Microcopy Specialist is expected to deliver the following outputs:
User interface microcopy
System messages, notifications, and error messages
Form content and user journey copy
UX writing guidelines and tone of voice standards
Content libraries and harmonized glossaries/terminologies
UX writing improvement recommendations
UX content analysis and optimization reports
Editorial documentation for digital products
User testing and A/B testing reports
Responsibilities
1. UX Content and Microcopy Design
Write clear, concise, and intuitive microcopy for web and mobile platforms.
Design user interface content including buttons, forms, notifications, error messages, confirmations, instructions, and contextual help.
Adapt content to different user profiles to facilitate the understanding and adoption of digital services.
Simplify administrative and technical jargon to make it accessible to citizens.
Ensure consistency in tone, style, and terminology across all digital platforms.
2. Collaboration with UX/UI and Product Teams
Work closely with UX/UI Designers to ensure seamless alignment between content, design, and user experience.
Participate in design workshops, as well as reviews of wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
Contribute to mapping user flows and defining the information architecture.
Collaborate with developers to guarantee the correct implementation of content within interfaces.
Participate in Agile ceremonies (Scrum, Kanban) and product co-design workshops.
3. User Research, Testing, and Continuous Improvement
Analyze user needs based on project documents (PRDs, user stories, functional briefs, etc.).
Participate in user testing and analyze feedback regarding content and interface comprehension.
Identify friction points related to language, comprehension, or navigation.
Conduct UX writing audits and provide recommendations for improvement.
Participate in A/B testing on microcopy, messages, and interface content to optimize the user experience and digital journey performance.
Analyze test results and propose data-driven improvements based on user metrics and KPIs.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of UX content across digital platforms.
4. Editorial Standards, Accessibility, and Quality
Define and maintain UX writing guidelines and tone of voice standards for digital platforms.
Ensure terminological and linguistic consistency across all digital services.
Ensure compliance with digital accessibility best practices (WCAG) and inclusive writing.
Contribute to elevating the editorial quality and user experience of public digital services.
Participate in creating style guides and UX content reference frameworks.
5. Watch and Innovation
Maintain a continuous watch on trends in UX writing, microcopy, conversational design, and user experience.
Keep abreast of best practices regarding accessibility, digital copywriting, and user journey optimization.
Promote a user-centered approach in digital content design.
Participate in improving the quality standards of the Agency's digital products.
Required Skills
Excellent writing skills in French; proficiency in English would be an asset.
Strong command of UX writing, microcopy, and web copywriting principles.
Ability to write clear, simple, concise, and user-oriented content.
Solid understanding of UX/UI design principles and user journeys.
Ability to translate complex technical or administrative concepts into plain language.
Knowledge of digital accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive writing practices.
Familiarity with A/B testing and UX content optimization methodologies.
Ability to analyze and interpret user data to improve digital content and journeys.
Familiarity with collaborative and digital design tools (Figma, Notion, product management tools, etc.).
Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
Strong empathy, active listening skills, and user-centric mindset.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Creativity, rigor, and sharp attention to detail.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Licence / BAC+3) in Communication, Journalism, Literature, Digital Communication, Product Design, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in a similar role.
Previous experience in digital projects, digital products, or public services would be an asset.
A portfolio or examples of previous UX writing/microcopy work may be requested.
